Deeply grooved concrete should be used only in crowd pens, single-file chutes, curved lanes, loading ramps, and in front of the squeeze chute. Deeply grooved concrete is not for areas where cattle live. In sorting pens, stock yards, and holding pens that have concrete floors, a shallow 1-inch (2.5cm) groove is recommended.
